According to Fox News, a thirteen-year-old from Liberty, Texas claims that she was sexually assaulted by as many as 20 men and boys during a series of attacks two years ago. The teen cried on the stand yesterday when the prosecution played a video of one of the sexual encounters for the jury to see. The girl said that a 20-year-old named Eric McGowen and another man in the case took her to a home in Cleveland, Texas in October of 2010. At that time, the teen was only 11 years old. She was then brought to a room in the home and the men and boys took turns having sex with her.
McGowen is only one of the 14 adults that are accused of assaulting the teen during the three-months that she was used. He has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and may face up to a lifetime in prison if he is convicted. The prosecutors played a few minutes of a cell phone recording where a third man comes in to sexually assault the child. She testified that McGowen was filming the footage that was shown to the jury. When the judge asked the young girl if the men just took turns with her, she replied with a somber “yes, sir.”
In sexual assault cases like this, it is often very hard for the jury to go against the victim. Yet the fact is that there are times that sexual assault cases are fabricated. Even children may want to get even with an adult and claim sexual assault in order to see revenge accomplished. If you were charged with sexually assaulting a minor, but did not commit a crime of this sort, then you need to talk to a criminal defense lawyer at the Zendeh Del Law Firm, PLLC. We would love to represent you in court, defending your actions and trying to show the judge and jury that you don’t deserve the punishment you may face.
