A Plano man was arrested last year when he tried to plant a bomb in an above ground gas line that would have caused a terrible explosion had it been set off. After the arrest, Anson Chi had to undergo a psychological evaluation because many were arguing that he was mentally deranged and could not stand trial.
After undergoing a strenuous evaluation, the Plano officials determined that the man had no mental disease and defect that would prohibit his case from moving forward. Oftentimes in Texas, if a local is arrested and a psychological evaluation proves that that person is not in his or her right mind, it may waive that person from needing to withstand trial.
Now that it is certain that the trial is going to move forward, Chi’s defense attorneys are asking for time to review new charges and hand up a new indictment. Chi was injured in an explosion with his homemade bomb and claims that it was an accident that the bomb went off. Authorities beg to differ, believing that the man meant to set off a bomb in the gas line.
