Three Brownsville men have recently been sentenced to federal prison for the roles they played in a drug trafficking and money laundering conspiracy. The three men, referred to here as R.R., R.R. Jr., and J.G., had previously pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to distribute more than five kilograms of
cocaine, as well as conspiring to launder the drug proceeds. The U.S. District Judge sentenced R.R. to 140 months, R.R. Jr. to 100 months, and J.G. to 160 months. They will all also have to serve five years of supervised release following the completion of their prison terms. In addition, R.R. agreed to forfeit his interest in his residence in Brownsville as part of his plea agreement.
When the judge was determining what the men's sentences would be, she took into consideration the length of the conspiracy, which was more than eight years long. She also noted that R.R. had a leadership role in the organization, and that J.G. had an extensive criminal background. All of the defendants have been and will remain in custody, awaiting their transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility which will be determined in the future.
