Man Steals Car from Plano Toyota Dealership

On Monday, Aug. 10, security footage at Toyota of Plano on Preston Road captured a fair haired man in a blue shirt and jeans stealing a customer’s vehicle as the owner was inside the dealership.

Plano Police Officer David Tilley said that the owner of the Corolla brought her vehicle to the dealership for servicing. She left her car door open with her keys inside as she went inside the office to speak to a service advisor. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. and only lasted about 15 seconds.

The security footage released by Plano police shows a man in a blue shirt walking out of the dealership’s service office. He approaches the Corolla, steps inside the vehicle and drives away.

It’s unclear whether it was a crime of opportunity, or if the man was inside the dealership, waiting for the right chance to steal a vehicle. Officer Tilley said that investigators determined that the man in the blue shirt did not have a service appointment, nor was he there to pick up his vehicle.

Tilley told the Plano Star Courier that if you’re going to take any vehicle to any service company, to take your keys, lock your doors, and go in and check in with a service advisor.
