Wells Fargo Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

On June 04, 2015, a man suspected of robbing a Wells Fargo branch on Jacksboro Highway and a bank in the 6000 block of Coit Road was arrested at a hotel in Thackerville, Oklahoma, according to Plano Police Department.

On May 27, 2015, a white male entered a bank located in the 6000 block of Colt Road. He demanded money from one of the tellers before he hopped over the counter and attempted to take money from the teller drawers. The suspect then exited the bank and took off on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

Plano Police officers responded to the bank at approximately 5:15 p.m. Though the suspect had fled the scene, Plano officials were able to identify the suspect as Mayes after collecting evidence left behind at the scene. The evidence included Mayes’ fingerprints, photos and video surveillance footage.

Plano Police teamed up with the FBI. Federal officials advised the Plano PD that Mayes was probably involved in the bank robbery that occurred in Wichita Falls.

The FBI looks at people who that have arrest records and have committed bank robberies, and they investigate them to see if they have been involved in other bank robberies, said Officer David Tilley of the Plano Police Department.

On June 3, a man robbed a Wells Fargo branch located inside the United Supermarket located on Jacksboro Highway. The suspect passed a note to a teller, demanding money. The man then fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed sum of money, according to Wichita Falls Police.

A day later, Mayes was captured at a hotel at the Winstar World Casino and Resort, located in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Mayes’ arrest was a collaborative effort with the United States Marshal Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force.

Mayes was taken to the Love County, Oklahoma Detention Center, which is where he attempted an escape on June 7th. However, the escape attempt failed and he was transported to the Collin County Jail where he was being held on $100,000 bond.
