Traffic Safety Administration has noted that even sober people, or people
who have not taken a drink or drug, can have difficulty with these tests.
However, there are several known factors that will affect every person
on the SFSTs:

- Nervousness
- Scared
- Allergies
- Wind conditions
- Fatigue
- Traffic distraction
- Age
- Illness
- Lack of coordination
- Weight
- Road conditions
- Weather conditions
- The police car's strobe lights
