Social Security Disability Benefits Going Paperless

Social Security Disability Benefits Going Paperless

The majority of transactions that take place between individuals, companies, banks, governments and others, are now being completed online. With the numerous security, and technology, advances that have been made on the internet, more and more people are opting to ditch their paper trails in favor of a digital trail. Due to the fact that approximately 5 million paper checks are mailed to federal beneficiaries each and every month, the Social Security Administration will soon be enacting an electronic payment law.

As of March 1st, 2013, all recipients of social security disability will be required to receive their benefits either by having their funds directly deposited into their bank account or deposited onto a Direct Express debit MasterCard. In order to make the switch, beneficiaries will have to provide the Social Security Administration will their Social Security number, the 12-digit check benefit number, the amount of the last benefit check they received, their bank routing number and their bank account number.

If you or a loved one is receiving social security disability payments, and you have questions about this new change, or any other aspect of your federal benefits, please contact a Plano Social Security Disability lawyer at our firm as soon as possible.
