The Dangers of K2

More than 100 people in a five-day stretch have exhibited signs of overdosing on a form of synthetic marijuana known as K2. This is synthetic marijuana that causes psychosis, altered mental status and abnormal behavior. The synthetic cannabinoids are designed to mimic the effects of marijuana and use dried flowers or herbs to do so. All the herbs and flowers are spritzed with a solution that contains psychoactive synthetic cannabinoids that bind to the same brain receptors that weed does. The DEA believes that these cannabinoids are normally designed by chemists in Asia and then smuggled into the U.S. for use.

At present, K2 is technically legal. While K2 is still considered a controlled substance, many people believe that the synthetic marijuana is legal and safe. This couldn't be further from the truth. The brightly packaged drugs can cause a fast heartbeat, hallucinations, and seizures. A University of Michigan study shows that about 11.3 seniors that use drugs were utilizing some form of synthetic marijuana such as K2. Some users admit that the substance makes them very aggressive but is highly addictive.

Some chemists may over-apply the ingredients that coat the herbs and flowers in K2. This makes the drug even more dangerous. The drugs are often poorly regulated, which means that they can contain harmful substances and hit the market without ever being tested.
