Are you interested in obtaining a Green Card through a job offer? If you’re offered permanent employment in the United States, you may become eligible for a Green Card. The question is, are you eligible at this point in time?

The good news is that there are actually multiple visa categories that are based on employment. Your education, job skills, and work experience are the types of factors that will be used to determine your eligibility for an employment-based visa.

Do you fit in any of these categories?

  • Are you someone who has an extraordinary ability in the arts, education, business, the sciences, or someone who is an athlete with national or international acclaim? Are you an outstanding researcher or professor or are you a multinational executive or manager? If your answer is “yes” to any of the above, you may fit into the
    priority worker category.
  • Are you a professional with an advanced degree or do you have an exceptional ability in the arts, sciences or business? If so, you may fit in the
    professional category.
  • Are you a skilled worker, a professional or another type of worker? If so, there may be an employment-based visa for you as well.

There are only a certain number of immigrant visas issued each year for those seeking Green Cards (lawful permanent resident status). In fact, the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) determines this number.

“The U.S. Department of State is the agency that distributes immigrant visa numbers. Employment-based immigrant visas are limited to 140,000 per year. In addition, there are limits to the percentage of immigrant visas that can be allotted to each country. These immigrant visas for individuals are limited, and not always available,” according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
